COVID-19 Update for May 12, 2020

Hello everyone,

The time has come for us to make the difficult decision to cancel Kids Rock Camp 2020 due to the COVID-19 outbreak. While some of you likely saw this coming, we did everything we could to wait as long as possible before making this call. Perhaps we were being naive, or optimistic, or both; but all of us at Kids Rock Camp agree that we did not want it to come to this.

For those who already registered, we will be getting in touch soon to process refunds. If you have any questions, please e-mail me.

I want to personally apologize for not keeping everyone updated on the Camp situation sooner; it’s possible some of you have been waiting to hear what our plans are. I am sorry for that. The truth is, even after the Leadership Team and I had made the decision, I hesitated to announce it at first, for several reasons. The first was that I didn’t know what to say. I am as disappointed as you all are that we can’t have Kids Rock Camp this Summer. So writing this statement was difficult for me, because I wanted to have the right words to say. The second reason was that I still held some sliver of hope that perhaps things would change more quickly. By postponing the announcement, the door was left open to perhaps still do Camp, maybe later in the Summer. But given the size of Kids Rock Camp and how many people are there, we just have no way that we can effectively meet the physical distancing requirements needed to keep everyone safe.

The third, and perhaps most important reason I did not make this announcement sooner is because I needed to pray. I needed time to pray about what God would like us to do instead. It might be to do something creative and different, or it might just be to rest. But whatever it is, we believe that God still has a plan, and He’s looking for us to be obedient to Him. I wanted time to hear that plan, so that perhaps I could provide some ideas towards a safer alternative to Kids Rock Camp in 2020. Some of you may remember the way God mobilized us in 2017, when we had to cancel Camp due to the wildfires all around us. The Community Lunches were a clear and obvious way that the church could still help and make an impact. The way forward through COVID-19 is not as clear this year; but that doesn't mean God doesn’t have a plan for us! While I don’t have anything to announce just yet, we are still praying about some creative ideas for ways we can safely do something as a Camp for 2020 - even if it is very different from the Camp we normally run. So please check back in to the website for any news in the coming months.

These are challenging and unprecedented times, but when we put our trust in Jesus we have a faith that is an anchor for the soul, firm and secure through even the fiercest storm. Do not despair for the things we are not able to do, but instead rejoice for the things we can still do, and find your joy in Jesus Christ.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch. My contact information is below. I’m praying for you.

God bless,
